Small
Group InsuranceMedical
underwriting rules for small group health insurance (2-50 people) differ from
large group and individual health insurance policies. Regardless of any preexisting
condition, you must be offered coverage under a small group policy on a guaranteed
issue basis. The application may still contain health questions and a request
for medical records or past medical history. If you can gain employment with a
small employer who offers small group health insurance, then you must be accepted
onto the plan. However, the small group insurance company can utilize a six-month
waiting period for preexisting conditions. If you have prior group health insurance
(creditable coverage) without a break of more than 180 days, it must be applied
to decrease or eliminate the waiting period. Back
